Best Way To Remove Stains in Your Minneapolis Carpets

Carpets are great in Minneapolis homes for many reasons. They are soft, retain heat from the sun, and can’t be scratched or scuffed. Unfortunately, there are also some not great things about carpets. This includes stains on your carpets. Carpets are easily stained by juice, pets, and mud. Thankfully, there are many ways to take stains out of carpets. The trick is to do it the right way to not damage your carpets.

Remove Excess

If food or other solids are what is staining the carpet, remove all the excess before getting the stain out. This might seem obvious, but when a pet owner has to clean up multiple spots of throw up a day, it could be a step that they miss. The excess contributes to the stain. Removing it quickly can make your job of cleaning up the stain easier.

Dab, Don’t Scrub

With many different kinds of cleaners, there are ones out there that have nozzles with scrub pads at the end. This does more harm than good because scrubbing moves carpet fibers, allowing the stain to move further down into the carpet. Dabbing or blotting out the stains keeps them on the top to make them easier to clean and remove.

Carpet Stain Remover

Stain removers are great to have on-hand in your home in case of any spills. If you don’t have any stain remover, the most common mixture of household items that can be used to remove stains include water, white vinegar, and dish soap mixed together. Spray the stained area that you can’t blot out and let the stain remover work its magic.

Wash And Blot Out Stain

After letting the stain remover soak up the stain, wash it out with water. This doesn’t mean to drown out the stain because too much water could create mold in the padding underneath the carpet. The right amount of water is a couple of sprays from a spray bottle. After that, blot out the stain again, similar to the second step. However, you’ll want to use a clean towel to dab this stain until it is gone.

Air Dry

Air drying will make sure that if any stain is left, it will stay on the top of the carpet and keep it from going further into the carpet. In most cases, it shouldn’t take too long to dry. In some cases, like if you have pets, you might want to keep a towel on it with something heavy on top so that no dirt gets stuck in your carpets.
