Why You Should Clean Your Carpets After Installation
Getting a new carpet for your Minneapolis home is exciting. It raises the value of your home, feels great, and gives your living space a new look. Generally, new things are clean things. However, that might not be the case with your new carpet. Carpet cleaning is important for your new carpets in more ways than one.
Where the carpet has been
Most carpets are manufactured, packaged, and sent out to be installed, but very few people, if any, know what gets on the carpets during each step of the way. Dirt, dust, and many other germs might be hidden in the carpets from travel or installation. In most cases, the installation crew will wear shoes for their protection from the nails and staples they use to install your carpet. Their shoes are probably dirty from wearing them outdoors. Both will dirty your carpets.
Chemicals on carpets
When the carpet is being manufactured, there are volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the glue and materials needed to make the carpets. These are potentially harmful chemicals and toxins. After the carpet is removed from the packaging to be installed in your home, the chemicals and toxins are very strong for up to 72 hours. That is why it is often recommended by installers to air out the room before moving in furniture and spending time in there. Vacuuming won’t completely get the VOCs out of the carpets either because it is in the materials deep in the carpets where vacuuming can’t reach. Professional carpet cleaning is able to get closer to the bottom of the carpet fibers, getting more of the VOCs out of the carpet.
Keeps your carpet clean longer
As stated in many earlier blogs, regular carpet cleaning helps your carpets last longer. The chemicals and dirt from installation will fray the carpets faster. A professional carpet cleaner will know how to clean your carpets without getting rid of the anti-stain coating. It also keeps the dirt away from the carpet padding to help it stay fluffy and last longer.
